4-Person couch is an exploration of an “emotional interior.” I wanted to challenge myself to design a piece of “furniture” and a setting which exemplified the kind of subtle emotional feelings that are often difficult to place into words. “Four Person Couch” forces the viewers down onto their knees in an uncomfortable crouching position to be able to view this performative installation. This body position is intended to make viewers ultra-aware of their position as a voyeur which exaggerates the intimacy they are witnessing being portrayed. The subdivision and facets of the rotating stage and the reflective walls speak about an eternal feeling of separation, even if you might be sitting next to a loved one the couch. The main performer drags her “loved ones” around on the rotating couch, over and over, a metaphor for unending struggle.
